Douglasdale/Glen Community Timbit Soccer Program

The Timbit soccer program is a mixed league for children born between 2002
and 2007. The goal of this program is to provide a recreational, fun,
non-competitive outdoor soccer league for our community’s children.
There are three levels within our soccer league, U4, U6 and U8.
The program is run 100% by volunteers!

You can register for soccer at one of our IN-PERSON registration sessions:

When:
Saturday, February 6th from
10:00 am to 1:00 pm and
Wednesday, February 24th from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm

Where:
The Deerfoot Inn and Casino (
Please note that registration is non-refundable)

Late registrations will not be accepted. Please bring your child’s Alberta Health Care Card and your 2010 Community Membership card. Memberships are $25.00 each and are available for purchase at both in-person and on-line registration. Please note there is an on-line processing fee.
The soccer program is for the following age groups and the following is a tentative schedule:

ProgramBirth YearDaysLocationsCost
U42006-2007ThursdayDouglasdale/Glen$40.00
U62004-2005TuesdayDouglasdale/Glen $40.00
U82002-2003Monday and WednesdayDouglasdale/Glen $50.00
The season will begin the week of April 26th, 2010 (weather permitting) and end the week of June 14th-17th, 2010

Please note that moving children between age groups is not allowed. If your child was born in 2001 or earlier, they must register with another soccer program
(see
www.mckenzieunited.com  for more information).

Teams are structured by fair age and gender distribution. For example, a U4 team of 10 children would have 5 girls and 5 boys with an equal gender distribution of children born in 2006 as well as 2007. Please note that with the number of children enrolling in soccer each season (over 400!), special requests can not be accommodated, as this makes the creation of fair and equal teams very complicated and time-consuming. However, if parents would like to volunteer with another parent as a coach/assistant coach, their children will automatically be assigned to the same team.

Lastly, we require over 200 volunteers to make this season possible. Please take time to review the various positions listed below, as you will be asked to volunteer for a position during the registration process. There will be clinics and orientations to make each job easier for all of the volunteer positions. We would like to express our gratitude for your consideration of these positions and fully understand the effort that is given as a volunteer. Our goal is to make these positions as effortless as possible through automation, organization skills and an abundance of volunteers.

Volunteer PositionDescription
CoordinatorsEach age grouping requires two volunteers to contact coaches and create teams (ideal position for a couple of friends to work on together!).  This volunteer position does not require knowledge of soccer, but rather good organizational skills. User-friendly computer spreadsheets and forms exist to assist coordinators in their tasks.
Equipment SortersEquipment needs to be sorted out each year into the coaching bags along with uniforms, water bottles, etc. before it is handed out to the coaches.  Equipment sorters help with this task on a Saturday in late April.
CoachesWe require dedicated parents with some time and a lot of patience. More important than soccer knowledge and skill is an ability and willingness to organize and lead children.  Coaching clinics run by Calgary Minor Soccer Association are provided for you, as well as a coaching manual that includes easy warm-up activities and games. The duties of a coach include collecting and maintaining an equipment bag as well as communicating with the team parent and other coaches during the season when there are weather cancellations. You may volunteer to coach with a specific assistant coach.
Assistant coachesAssist the coach in their duties; help keep the players organized on the sidelines when they are not on the field. You may volunteer to assistant coach with a specific coach/assistant coach.
Team ParentsResponsible for contacting players on your child’s team to let them know when/where their first game is and making up a snack schedule.  You would also email the team in the event of game cancellations.

Douglasdale/Glen Timbit Soccer is a recreational outdoor league of over 400 children run entirely by volunteers and sponsored by Tim Hortons/Calgary Minor Soccer Association. For more information about volunteering, please contact us at or 720-0668.
